The British Council selected six female Saudi curators to embark on an intensive course in the UK, KSA and UAE to build their curatorial skills, international connections and access to the global art world to grow the next generation of curators in the region. At the end of the programme, the six women curated their first-ever exhibition, ‘We Are Not Alone’, at ATHR Gallery in Jeddah.
H+K worked with the Collective and the British Council to start curious conversations around art and the Contemporary Collective members, to drive discussion ahead of the exhibition and fill the opening with people to share their experience online.
More than 500 attendees gathered to and support the next generation of Saudi curators and view art never-before-seen in Saudi Arabia, from renowned artists including Damien Hirst, Shirazeh Houshiary, Rachel Whiteread and Cornelia Parker.
Highlights of the communications campaign included a series of profiles with the Saudi female curators, a double page spread in Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, and broadcast features on Al Arabiya and Saudi TV. Internationally, features appeared in The Art Newspaper, BBC and the Financial Times, whilst locally, key influencers including Warchieff spread the message to Saudi youth.
